Peter's Fund Racer, a ski race for all ages and abilities, raising funds for melanoma research

Charities Funded to Date

In March 2012 we were able to announce, with this year's contributions, we will have donated over 1 million dollars to the research and care facilities noted. Pretty awesome we would say for just a bunch of friends and family. With our heartfelt thanks, here are our charities funded to date:

$10,000 to Dr. Kim's melanoma research at Beth Israel Hospital
$25,000 to the Hope Lodge in Boston (American Cancer Society)
$25,000 to the Mad River Valley Community Fund
$28,000 to the Sugarbush Ski Patrol Relief Fund
$50,000 to the Hope Lodge in Burlington, VT (American Cancer Society)
$65,000 to the Vermont Respite House
$75,000 to the Cancer Patient Support Program at Fletcher Allen Hospital
$150,000 for 'Peter's Healing Garden' at Fletcher Allen Hospital, and
Over $575,000 to the Massachusetts General Hospital for melanoma research.

With our initial focus being a cure for this deadly disease, our most significant yearly donations have been to the Melanoma Research Fund at Massachusetts General Hospital for cutting edge research.

In addition to raising funds for melanoma research, we contribute $5,000 annually to the Vermont Respite House in Williston, Vermont. This fantastic facility provides a very professional, dignified and comfortable environment for residents from all backgrounds to live out their final stages of a fatal disease.

A third check for $2,500 is given to the Sugarbush Ski Patrol that Peter served proudly on for twelve years.

In 2005, thanks to our spontaneous fun on Patriots Day, we raised an additional $100,000. This along with funds from the annual event totaling $150,000 have helped create 'Peter's Garden' at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vermont where Peter received the majority of his treatment. During those treatments, Peter took on the responsibility of making everyone around him feel just a little bit better about what they were facing, together. The healing garden is located in a new interior courtyard where patients can rest and reflect.

As you can see from the significant donation for the healing garden, we have broadened our scope to include not only research, but patient and family care. It is with that spirit in mind that we presented $50,000 from the 2007 event to the new Hope Lodge in Burlington, Vermont. The Lodge is designed to provide housing for cancer patients who have to travel long distances to receive their treatments. It is a project developed by The American Cancer Society and were assured that 100% of our donation would go directly into the building of this state-of-the-art facility.

Additional donations have been made to Dr. Caroline Kim’s melanoma research at Beth Israel Hospital, The Hope Lodge in Boston, and the Cancer Patient Support Program at Fletcher Allen Hospital.
